Educational use only
Content is provided for general information. It summarises official guidance as at the review date shown on each page and may not reflect later changes. You must check the current GOV.UK guidance and take professional advice before making decisions about a development, a land-management agreement or a unit transaction. Biodiversity Net Gain Hub accepts no liability for loss arising from reliance on this hub.
Non-statutory estimator
The calculator at /calculator/ (version 1.0, 17 September 2026) is a simplified teaching model of the statutory biodiversity metric's area-habitat logic. It omits hedgerow and watercourse modules, trading rules, irreplaceable habitat rules, condition assessment criteria and off-site spatial risk. Its outputs are indicative only, are not a statutory metric calculation, are not a valuation or quotation, and cannot be submitted with a planning application or biodiversity gain plan. Use the statutory biodiversity metric tool completed by a competent person.
England-first scope
The statutory 10% requirement described here applies in England under Schedule 7A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have different frameworks. This hub does not describe them and makes no claim that they are equivalent.
No government affiliation or endorsement
Biodiversity Net Gain Hub is independent. It is not Natural England, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, or any local planning authority, and none of them has reviewed or endorsed this hub. Links to GOV.UK are provided for reference under the Open Government Licence terms of those pages.
No unit brokerage as principal
Biodiversity Net Gain Hub does not own biodiversity gain sites, hold or sell biodiversity units or statutory credits, act as agent or principal in any transaction, or provide investment advice. The directory lists third-party providers. Any contract is between you and the provider; we are not a party to it and take no commission on unit sales.
Listing and affiliate disclosure
Directory listings will be added with each firm's consent after launch. Premium listings are a paid placement, labelled as such, processed through Stripe. Paid placement does not influence educational content. Should the hub enter any referral or affiliate arrangement, it will be disclosed here and on the relevant page. We publish no reviews, ratings or testimonials that we cannot verify.
Forms and data
Forms send enquiries to the brand mailbox and we reply from that mailbox. Nothing is sold to third parties, and no personal email addresses or mobile numbers are published on this hub.
